Bronwen Marshall AW 11/12...

Heart Shirts...

I visited the V & A the other day to see their latest 'Power of Making' exhibition. One of Bronwen Marshalls 'Heart Shirts' were displayed from AW 11/12 collection (picture 1).
What initially caught my attention was the the fact that instead of being a print the heart was a patchwork of pieces of fabric, presumably resulting in a very complex pattern process.
After researching the shirt later I found that it came from this series of shirts displaying the story of a breaking heart.
The shirts move along the colour gradient from light grey to slate as the blood from the heart gushes away resulting in splayed linear prints and pleats.
Although perhaps hidden behind quite a deep concept, I thought the shirts showed amazing craftmanship.

Top Hated...

My top 5 most hated things in life are :
  1. Racism
  2. Fighting
  3. Spitting
  4. Littering
  5. Football
...after thinking about it I have come to realise that perhaps the reason I hate number 5 so much is because it more than often involves numbers 1-4...

So...being a rugby over football girl, when I saw this article in the Radio Times (I'm cool), I wanted to cheer. Hope you can read it...

Sorry...Rant over.

Summery Sequins...

I've been very organised keeping myself up to date with the happenings of NYFW.

J.Crew

Something I have noticed is that sequins, usually perhaps associated with wintery party dresses, keep popping up. For a refreshing summery look they have often been teamed with lighter fabrics or denim or just scattered over garments rather than plastered.

Nicole Miller

Oscar De La Renta

J.Crew

I'm thinking for next summer's festival look, perhaps a sequin encrusted bandeau could be teamed with my staple cut-offs and Dr M's...planning ahead.

My Favourite Colour Is...

This winter we again see Jewel Colours take over from the brights of last seaon. Perfect as an alternative to black...head to toe or a flash as an accessory...

All of the tones are lushious, but my favourite this season is emerald green. For me the colour has some retro, quirky feel to it which the other colours don't offer...

Gucci

Diane von Furstenberg
(love the colour in fur)

 Marc by Marc Jacobs

HGH STREET ALTERNATIVES...

Unisex American Apparel

Colour Blocking ASOS

Chunky Emerald Earrings...the gold trimming adds extra 'retro-ness' ASOS

I am yet to invest in an emerald item...but I'm thinking a floaty, baggy chiffon blouse should take me nicely into the dark months.

Chesca Miles...

'We get knocked down a lot as girls by the boys, but you have to prove you are serious...'

Chesca Miles - Britain's only female stunt bike rider, singer / songwriter, model and only 20...jeeze, girl crush??

Barryargain...

Newest little chazza shop bargain...80's style leather for a fiver! Couldn't go wrong. Think it looks best with simple dress and wedge boots as it's quite a statement in itself...

Check out the retro suede detailing on the back. Haha love it!

Granny Chic...

Slightly behind the times but just checkin out House of Holland's AW11 collection again...watching one of his shows is like listening to a massive mashup...love it.
This time he went for a Granny Chic theme...yet still managed to throw in signiture quirks such as slogan tees and statement earrings.
Think the chunky crochet cardi and massive crochet scarf do it for me the most. Also a bit of a sucker for a baggy sweat, so the crude logo one here made me blush...

REALLY thought this crochet thing was going to catch on this summer (especially with Toppers pushing it) but so far haven't seen or heard much...

Personally think these pieces from Topshop are a bit skanky...but I'm thinking of getting my Grandma to knit me a genuine granny cardi...I'm thinking mono tone with perhaps a few retro splashes of turquoise and peach...

Funny...

I'm miles behind with all my reading of magazines which come through my door every month BUT...in a random ASOS magazine today I was reading an interview with Theo from the band 'Hurts' on festivals...saw this band play in Cardiff last year...wasn't that impressed but some of the things he said in this made me laugh and totally agreed with him
Thought I'd share a few of his answers / quotes which made me laugh...

'Most people go for shorts and a hat - whats your festival staple?' : "...But I don't understand - why not wear a suit to a festival? If I was at the park I'd wear one."

'What would it take to get you into a pair of wellies?' : "...I would wear them at a festival, but you should only wear them when you have to. I saw people in wellies last year at Glastonbury when it was boiling hot. No need! Your feet will melt into tiny raisin."

'What do you think when you look into the festival crowd and see topless men with Umbro shorts?' : "You've got to deal with it in the best way possible. But I'll tell you what I'll never understand - people who wear stupid hats at festivals. You don't wear them any other time. Or a dread lock hat! I've seen it all. They walk around going, "Look at me, I'm at a festival, I'm wacky." Ban them."

'How would you feel if we made you wear a flip-flop?' : "Not into it. Can't handle it. Impossible to walk in, for starters...".

Some of it made me chuckle anyway...

Weird Is The New Sex...

As we all know Gaga is the absolute queen of the weird video...alot of it being her own imagination...and I 'effin love her for it....

Does anyone else think since the beginning of the Gaga boom in 2008, the other queens of Pop (love them or hate them) seem to have realised that it can be cool to be 'weird' in their videos also. They do not need to wear the tightest / most revealing clothes or dance the most provocative dance routines to make a decent music video.

Miss Plastic Cole...

Attempts weird in her '3 Words' video.

Naked Katy Perry...

to full on alien freak in 'ET' video.

An oldie, but lolly sucking Kelis...

to horned golden girl in 'Acapella' video.

Umberella waving french maid Rhianna...

to no pupiled monster in her 'Disturbia' video.

No one will do it like Gaga though.
